The past several months have been marked with anticipation as the Merchants team has patiently watched from the windows of HQ1 as ground has been broken, a foundation poured, and a structure comes into view. On June 20, 2024, team members of Merchants Bank and Merchants Capital, their individual families, Hopper, community members, and more came together for a topping-off ceremony in celebration of the final structural beam being placed on the new headquarters expansion.
HQ2 will be a 110,000-square-foot, five-story building that directly neighbors HQ1 in Carmel’s Midtown, and once fully built, will feature a skywalk connecting the two buildings. The construction is underway with Indianapolis-based Dillon Construction Group, who was also responsible for the HQ1 construction that concluded in 2019.
Ahead of the final structural placement during the ceremony, attendees were invited to sign the specially-painted green beam, contributing their own mark to this moment in Merchants’ history. Hopper was front and center for the celebration, greeting and taking photos with attendees to commemorate the occasion. Merchants Bank Chairman and Co-founder Michael Petrie, Merchants Bank President and CEO Michael Dunlap, and Merchants Capital President and CEO Michael Dury all shared remarks on the significance and importance of this new addition.
“With the creation of HQ2, Merchants is entering into a new era of opportunities within the state of Indiana and across the country,” said Petrie. “It is incredible how a milestone like this can act as a reminder of where we’ve come from, where we are today, and the goals and talent that will launch us into the future.”
Topping-off ceremonies hold a special place within Merchants’ history as they represent the hard work and dedication of both past and present Merchants employees located across the country. The HQ2 location is at 420 3rd Avenue SW, Carmel, and construction is anticipated to be completed in late 2025.
